Anna Stenlund, who now goes with the surname Sjöström, is born and raised in Närpes, Finland. She started singing at an early age, been singing in choirs and musicals as well as done solo performances at different events. She first got known when participating in the Swedish reality tv-show Robinson in 2002, which was also aired on TV4 in Finland. Anna later married one of the other participants in the reality show, Patric Sjöström, and moved to Stockholm.
In 2004 Anna participated in the Finnish national Eurovision Song Contest as Dee Kay Records artist, with the song “A Little Crazy” written by Janne Hyöty and Sofie Björkgren-Näse. Anna had the first place after jury votes and ended up in second place after the public votes, right after the Finnish super star Jari Sillanpää. Anna didn’t get to go to Istanbul to represent Finland in the Eurovision, but she did participate by giving the Finnish votes on tv in the Eurovision Song Contest finals.
The album “music on” was released on Dee Kay Records 13th of May 2004, with one release party in Vasa and another one in Stockholm. Anna did gigs, album promotion, and several tv- and radio shows. The single “A Little Crazy” was no 6 on the Finnish local radio network’s playlist. Besides Janne Hyöty and Sofie Björkgren-Näse, many other writers participated in the album; Kee Marcello, Mats Tärnfors, Kari Raita, Mohammad Denebi, Linda Rönnholm, Mats Berntoft, Patrick Linman, Stefan Lindblom, Jade Ell och Dallas Wayne.
Anna has studied classical singing with Membrahtu Barnabas, pop- and jazz singing with Kerstin Weckström, she did the music programme at the upper-secondary school of Vasa Övningsskola, and after moving to Stockholm she went to Kulturama.
Anna has been acting and singing in theatre production at Wasa Theatre like “Cyrano de Bergerac”, “Colorado Avenue” and “Himmel och Jord”. This was also where she first met Janne Hyöty, producer at Dee Kay Records. Janne later produced her album and wrote many of the songs on the album as well.
In 2005 Anna participated in the Finnish national Eurovision Song Contest with a song called “One more chance”, written by Sipe Santapukki, known as the drummer in Apulanta. At this time she was no longer on the Dee Kay Records label.
“Today it seems like a different life time”, Anna says, now being a mother of 2 teenage girls, living in Skellefteå, (Sweden) with her family.
